How to Apply for an Equivalency Certificate in Turkey?

What is an E-Denklik Belgesi?

An equivalency certificate is required by most Turkish universities for students who intend to do their bachelor degrees etc. The process for getting the equivalency certificate is fairly simple if you know the steps. In this article you’ll find a step by step process to getting a Denklik as a YTB scholarship student or a foreign student in general.

What documents are needed to apply for equivalency certificate in Turkey?

Scan copy of the below documents

  1. Print out and filled out Application Form for Equivalence Certificate
  2. High School Transcript (There is no need to show transcript of middle school, but you can add if you want to)
  3. High School Certificate (There is no need to show certificate of middle school, but you can add it if you want to)
  4. Embassy attested photocopy of your high school transcript and certificate
  5. Notarized translation of your high school transcript and certificate
  6. Passport and Residence Permit Card

When should I apply for E-Denklik?

It is better to start applying for a E-Denklik as soon as you come to Turkey. Before coming to Turkey it is easier to attest your educational documents from your country as sometimes the process is very lengthy.

How to attest educational certificates from the Bangladesh embassy from Turkey?

For the Bangladesh Embassy they require your educational documents be attested from first your educational board (For example Dhaka board, Chattogram Board), then the education ministry, then the foreign ministry and then the embassy will be allowed to attest it. And all the ministries and boards in Bangladesh require you to have your original certificates while applying for attestation. If you don’t have your documents attested from the above mentioned institutions the Bangladesh Embassy won’t attest your documents. If you are unable to attest from the mentioned institutions and come to Turkey with your certificates. You’ll need to send your original certificates back to your country with DHL, FEDex or other postal services, have them attested from the mentioned places and sent back to you to Turkey. After that you’ll be able to get the Embassy attestation. The Turkey education ministry will reject your request for a Denklik unless you have your educational documents attested by the Embassy. The process is very lengthy if you don’t plan ahead.

Keep in mind the validity for attestation in your country. In Bangladesh validity for attestation is 6 months. So it is better to get your document attested from the embassy within 6 months of your attestation from the foreign ministry. Again if you explain your situation to the embassy maybe they will consider your documents even after 6 months after attestation. Again the Turkish Education Ministry doesn’t have this type of rule where attestations are considered invalid after a specific amount of time.

Which educational documents do I need to submit for attestation for an E-Denklik?

Another thing to keep in mind is that the Turkey Education Ministry is mainly interested in your high school transcript and certificate. In Bangladesh the high school certificate and transcript are mainly known as HSC (Higher Secondary Certificate) certificate and transcript. They are not interested in middle school certificates and transcripts (SSC, Secondary School Certificate certificate and transcript). So it is ok only to get your HSC certificate and transcript attested from the embassy.

Steps to applying for a E-Denklik

  1. Prepare your documents, have your educational documents attested from the Embassy of your country. There might be a fee required to pay the embassy for attestation so keep that in mind.

(Note: For the Bangladesh embassy you need to make the payment to their mentioned bank in Dollars (not Turkish Lira). I accidentally submitted the money in TL and the embassy caused a problem for that. You have to send them the recipient by either going to the embassy or messaging them the picture of the receipt)

  1. Go  to the website https://edenklik.meb.gov.tr/ and read through the instructions of how to apply for Denklik and what documents you’re going to need.
  2. Download the application form Application Form for Equivalence Certificate and print it out. After that fill out the form with the necessary information and give your signature. Scan the form and convert to pdf
  3. Go to the online application page and fill out the form with your details and click next Online Application Form
  1. In the following page you have to upload the documents that are listed above. PDF format is preferred. Remember that if the transcripts and certificates have seals, signatures and something else in the back you have to include the scan of the backside in the pdf too. Or else they will tell you to make an online application again properly.
  1. After uploading all the documents properly, you need to choose an office venue, date and time for your appointment at a National Education office. After applying for the appointment you’ll get a message on your Turkish Phone Number added to the form where your application number and appointment details are mentioned.
  2. Go to the appointment at the chosen time and take all the documents that are mentioned in the list. The appointment is mainly to check if your certificates and transcripts are authentic or not. They may also ask to see your passport or residence permit card and application form
  3. After they check your documents and  if everything is ok, it could take more than 2 weeks for you to receive your Denklik. You won’t get a hardcopy of the Denklik. You can only download it online from the website. You can get your results in the Query Application page by entering your application number and details. Remember to select Result of equivalence certificate in the field
    Result of Application

What do I do if I can’t download my Denklik even though my documents have been approved?

If for any reason you can’t download your Denklik then the problem is related to the device you are using. Some try from their phones but the Denklik document doesn’t appear. You can access your document if you try it with a different computer with up-to-date programs or you can request your certificate from the equivalence center that issued your equivalence certificate.
If you have any other problems with any part of the process email the equivalence center at ttkb_denklik@meb.gov.tr
